Summer Lovin'

This summer Tanner and I have been fully involved with the youth in our ward. Since my new calling as Young Women’s president and Tanner’s as Sunday School teacher for YM/YW, we haven’t missed an activity with the youth. Last month, we went on an 11.5 mile hike on the Juniper Trail to see the Jardine Juniper tree. This is the oldest tree in Utah that is still living. It is approximately 3,200 years old.

At first when I saw the tree, I admit, I was a little disappointed. I was expecting to see a big tree with huge green leaves, and even a light shining down on it from heaven. I mean, I did walk over 5 miles to see it, so at that point I wanted to see something extravagant. But as I rounded the corner gasping for air I saw the tree. It was mostly brown with a little tuff of green leaves at the very top. It too looked like it was gasping for air. I had to be a positive role model so I showed my amazement facial expression and took pictures. Overall, we all really did have a great time on that hike and were sore for a while.

Starting the hike.

A breath-taking view!

A picture with the tree.

There were 2 groups on the hike. Our group was the easy going group. The other group had to wait 2 hours for us.

Fun in the Sun!

This month, we also had a car wash fundraiser for girl’s camp. It was my very first big activity with the girls so I was really excited. We all worked together and did a lot of planning to make this car wash successful and professional-like. We had 3 different carwashes (regular $8, deluxe $14, and super deluxe $20) depending on what the customer wanted. We even had $2 extras too. The day before we made air fresheners for every car we cleaned that said “Pure Hearts, Clean Hands, Clean Cars. Logan 6th Ward YW. Thank you.” It was very cute.

There were cars lining up even before we were ready to start.
My secretary, Shanna, taking the money.

Tabatha washing the cars with excitement.

Me and Tabatha having fun in the sun.

Molly quickly filling up the buckets.

Mattie and Mackie the drying crew.

Rachel vacuuming.

Lydia, Allison, and Jessica at the treats. We had a snow cone machine too. It was our highlight.

We worked all day in the sun, but it was well worth it.

We fundraised $1,010.45!!

Teresa exhausted from the day, but still happy.

Everyone was amazed at the turn out and how much we made. We even had to turn people away because we were so tired. The Lord blessed us so much.

I am having a blast with my new calling. I have had such a fun summer with these little ladies. I have so much love for these young women. They have so many strengths and are so refreshing.

looks like you guys have had a really fun summer! We miss our good friends the Glenns too! We're glad that you are enjoying your calling (our new nickname for you is Wonder Woman :) and that Tanner's bro made it ok to the MTC. What a fun time! We're coming home during the month-long Christmas Break so we'll for sure have to catch back up and show you guys how to play Rock Band like pros! :o)
