YBU?

Living in Logan has changed me. No longer do I follow blindly in the traditions of my forefathers. I have shaken the shackles of mind numbing Zoobieness! Tonight marks the opening game of our Men's Basketball season. As such I decided to dedicate a post to the only thing that has gotten me through three long Logan winters, USU hoops.

How could anyone not fall in love with a team that has won 23 games or more over the last 9 seasons (only 2 other teams in the nation can say the same, and they don't include YBU)? How can you not be a fan of a team who's home winning record under the great coach Stew Morrill is 142-12?

You might wonder how it could be fun to watch when we win all of the time? Interestingly enough, we are often still the underdogs. Rarely are we expected to win in games against our in-state rivals. When we do it's often dismissed as a fluke. This red-headed stepchild-like treatment is what leads us to despise our in-state rivals. What kind of treatment do I speak of? Let me tell you a story.

Ironically, this is a story about a red-head. His name is Dave Rose. You may know him as the head coach of the men's basketball team at YBU. Two years ago, Dave Rose, cancelled a long standing agreement with USU to play each other every year alternating home courts. As such, our teams didn't play last season.

Why you might ask? Frankly, it allowed him to avoid playing USU on our home court during All-American Jaycee Carroll's senior year. It is also rumored that he doesn't like the way our student section chants "Waste of tithing" to distract his players.

How could he do this? Because he thinks he can do whatever he want's to little old red-headed stepchild USU. Funny that U of U has never pulled such antics.

This debacle has downgraded Dave Rose's reputation to that of a spineless coward in the eyes of many. Also, the hostile nature of USU fans to YBU fans has elevated to a dangerous level. I fear for the safety of friends and family who are still fans of the smurf-blue team to the south.

In closing, for anyone interested in getting me a Christmas present this year, please consider the item up for auction listed here. Please help me endure another frigid winter here in Logan!

Nice to see you've made the conversion. I'll always be partial to the respectable red team to the south, but I've also always liked Utah State. Stew Morrill is an amazing coach, and what he's accomplished cannot be ignored. Plus, he's an avid fly fisher- all the more to like the guy. It will be interesting to see how they do in the WAC...

USU games are really exciting to attend in person, it's true. But Tanner, do you realize you are alienating 2/3 of your immediate family by going anti-BYU?

I hope Mom undivorces you so we can have a civil Thanksgiving :)

Go Tanner. I couldn't agree more. Even being out here at WV with their actually exciting football games does not compare to USU basketball. Devin and I both miss those games. We might have to try and catch one while we are in town.
