My new LEAST favorite actress, Janeane Garofalo speaks out:
"Let's be very honest about what this is about. This is not about bashing Democrats. It's not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about. They don't know their history at all. It's about hating a black man in the White House," she said on MSNBC's "The Countdown" with Keith Olbermann Thursday evening. "This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. There is no way around that."
Very well said Janeane. Great show Keith. I’ll raise my tea cup, and my little finger to that! I might even pour a little out for my homies. Quality.

Count me in to the "not a big fan of Garofalo" club.
She's right about it being a stupid way to protest though. I mean, we just had an election where we were given the opportunity to vote in our representatives. Effectively nullifying the whole "no taxation without representation" purpose of the Boston Tea Party.
Going into this Bush passed a big stimulus, and whether we chose Obama or McCain, everyone knows (or should have seen) that another big stimulus (potentially many) would be coming down the pipe. So it is sort of Democrat bashing, but I don't really care (political parties and their fairly narrow ideologies are a good target).
Oddly enough, the word verification here is "patives." Which plays nicely with the "Native American" and patriotic undercurrents of your post.
"Pat"riot + N"ative" = Pative
I think the computers might be planning something. I'll put that on my list of things to look into after breakfast.
B-Hal...
Thanks for stopping by man.
I think this whole protest was more about conservatives feeling like they never had a candidate who represented them well. I know I wasn't excited about McCain or Obama. Bush was anything but conservative, other than his stance on the war. The protest wasn't exactly like the Boston Tea Party and wasn't meant to be. Maybe it shouldn't have been likened to such an historical event. When you get down to it you are right though. Obama won the election and he gets to call the shots for the next four years. The economy has shown some small indications of improvement lately and I'll give Obama full credit for his efforts if we pull out of this thing soon.
One last point. Whether the protest was stupid or not, this was just one of many examples of degrading comments made towards these people. Turns out there were some democrats at these protests too, who did vote for Obama but aren't happy with what he's been doing. There were black people and people of many different backgrounds. The fact of the matter is that people can peacefully protest whether it's stupid or not. Crying racist isn't appropriate. Calling everyone rednecks is elitist. The teabagging comments are juvenile. And Garofalo wasn't the only one to make them. Why the harsh outlash against peaceful protests?
Well I guess I don't understand why a bunch of these folks would dress up like Native Americans if they weren't trying to connect the present with the Boston Tea Party. I agree there is no need for name calling, and there is no problem with peaceful protest. However, it seems like that is what Garofalo did, I'm not aware that she was violent in any way. Elitist, sure, poor taste and juvenile, absolutely. Stating her opinion just like those other folks, also true.
I agree that the connection to the Boston Tea Party is far fetched. That is what's causing the confusion because the fact is we are represented and we all had a chance to vote. I think it was just an easy theme to rally around.
Jeebs and I saw a pretty awesome bumper sticker over the weekend "Barack O Vomit". I needed a little tea to settle my stomach. I've had way to much vomit lately.....
Oh, by the way, she's an idiot.
"agnizer": O Vomit....
I'm with you on the Garofalo thing....and there are many more celebs out there who have made it to my mental "black-list". Tom Hanks really blew it as well. They just look extrememly uneducated when they make remarks like this. I'm not going out of my way to make a spreadsheet of all celebrities I disagree with, but the next time one of their movies comes out, that "bad taste" will come back and I think I'll save the $10 for for something else.
